Digital drop-on-demand printing technology facilitates late stage customisation which augments line agility and flexibility as well as process efficiency — expediting reaction times while slashing lead times and material waste. For a broadening range of products, it enables cost-effective low order quantities, micro-batch runs, and seasonal and personalised products. The presentation will focus on the late stage customization of three applications. The digital printing for beverage closures is an excellent alternative to other mature printing technologies. Less personal and short changeover times are the decisive factors for this innovative technology. The inline printing of tube laminate yields the great advantage of lead time which is up to six weeks in the conventional supply chain. Digital print of the entire artwork or that of variable elements is possible. The third application we call print-and-apply labels. As a result of a joint development with our partner the machine comprises of the digital printing and the application of the labels to the bottle within one process unit. You gain high flexibility and agility for bottle manufacturing, and reduce the scrap rate almost to zero.
